IPC Reveals March’s Athlete of the Month Shortlist

Munich-Germany, April 03, 2012: IPC Reveals, The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has announced its shortlist for March’s Athlete of the Month award, and the public can now vote for the winner via the poll on the www.paralympic.org homepage.

The finalists for April include:

Matt Cowdrey (Australia): Cowdrey set a new world record in the 50m Freestyle S9 at the Australian Swimming Championships in Adelaide. He also set a new world record in the 100m Freestyle S9, which has yet to be approved by IPC Swimming.

-Nikolay Polukhin (Russia): Polukhin won the individual trophy in the men’s Biathlon Visually Impaired class at the IPC Nordic Skiing World Cup after winning all three events in the discipline at the final competition in Vuokatti, Finland.

-Anna Schaffelhuber (Germany): Schaffelhuber won the women’s Sitting category at the IPC Alpine Skiing Europa Cup in Auron, France.

-Korea Ice Sledge Hockey Team: Korea turned many heads by picking up a silver medal at the 2012 IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships in Hamar, Norway. It was the first time the team has ever medalled on the international stage.

-USA Ice Sledge Hockey Team: The Americans won gold at the 2012 IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships, becoming the first team to ever win back-to-back world titles.

-The public now has until 12:00 (CEST) on 10 April to vote for which athlete or team it thought had the best performance last month on the para-sport scene. Previous winners of the award in 2012 include two Russians – nordic skier Roman Petushkov and wheelchair curler Oksana Slesarenko.
