WJS Championship live on new Olympic Channel

By Robert Fawdon & ISA, Azores, Sept 23, 2016: The International Surfing Association (ISA) today confirmed that the 2016 VISSLA ISA World Junior Surfing Championship, which is currently taking place in the Azores, Portugal, will be carried live on the Olympic Channel this Saturday and Sunday starting at 9 a.m. local time.

The new, ground-breaking digital platform where fans can experience the power of sport and the Olympic Movement all year round is available worldwide via mobile apps for Android and iOS devices and at olympicchannel.com.

The Championship, which involves a record 371 surfers from 39 countries, climaxes this weekend with the finals of the Aloha Cup and the Boys and Girls U-18 and U16 finals. All the weekend’s action from the Azores will be streamed to a worldwide audience on the Olympic Channel using the ISA webcast live feed.

Speaking about this landmark moment, ISA President, Fernando Aguerre, said:

“I am delighted that the 2016 VISSLA ISA World Junior Championship will be made available on the Olympic Channel through to the finals of the competition this weekend. This is a great opportunity for Surfing to continue to widen its reach and exposure, win new fans and of course makes real our commitment to support this new initiative from the IOC. The ISA is also in discussions with the channel about how to further enhance and promote Surfing for future ISA events.

“Embracing innovation and digital content has long been a central part of the ISA’s approach and I hope that today’s announcement will prove to be just the start of a much deeper relationship between Surfing and the Olympic Channel.”

The 2016 VISSLA ISA World Junior Championship concludes on Sunday September 25 and will bring to a close a record-breaking U-18 event in terms of the number of surfers and nations competing.
