AELTC Chairman Philip Brook awarded CBE

London, UK, June 8, 2019: Philip Brook, Chairman of The All England Lawn Tennis Club and The Championships, Wimbledon, has been awarded a CBE in Her Majesty The Queen’s Birthday Honours.

Brook has recognised for services to tennis during his tenure as Chairman of the AELTC, which began in 2010 and will conclude in December 2019.

Philip Brook CBE, AELTC Chairman, commented:

I am incredibly proud of how the All England Club and The Championships have developed during my time as Chairman, and how we continue to work towards securing the future of Wimbledon for decades to come.

I delighted to accept this honour on behalf of Wimbledon, and would like to thank my colleagues, friends and family for their enduring support.”

Highlights of Brook’s Chairmanship include:

the development of the Wimbledon Master Plan, launched in 2013, including the No.1 Court Project; the extension of the grass court season to create three weeks between Roland-Garros and Wimbledon;

the significant investment into prize money, integrity and anti-doping; the launch of the Wimbledon Foundation, the charity of the All England Club and The Championships;

the significant growth of the Wimbledon brand, including the insourcing of host broadcasting, retail and hospitality;

the celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the All England Club; and the successful acquisition of Wimbledon Park Golf Club.

After studying mathematics at Cambridge, Philip joined M&G Reinsurance as a trainee actuary in 1977.

He became a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries in 1984. In 1991, he joined R. Watson and Sons (became Watson Wyatt Worldwide, now Willis Towers Watson) and became a Partner in 1992.

He retired from the firm in June 2009.

Philip lives in Woldingham, Surrey, with his wife, Gill, and they have two daughters, Elizabeth and Victoria. —- AELTC
