Paris 2024 unveils logo for Olympic and Paralympic Games Bid

BY Rob Fawdon: Paris, France: Feb 9, 2016: The city of Paris today unveiled the logo for its campaign to become the Host of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2024.

The Paris 2024 bid logo was revealed at the time of 20:24 in front of hundreds of spectators in the city centre as the new campaign emblem was projected on to the Arc de Triomphe, one of the most famous landmarks in the French capital.

As an expression of the Paris 2024 bid vision, the new logo was designed to represent the city’s dynamism, radiance and openness. The logo is a modern interpretation of Paris’ most iconic symbol, the Eiffel Tower, that reflects the city’s rich and beautiful history whilst also conveying the positive sense of optimism, drive and ambition of this vibrant metropolis.

The Paris 2024 logo is also a representation of the number ‘24’ that serves a dual purpose – to celebrate the centennial anniversary of the last time Paris hosted the Games in 1924, through the emblem’s elegant design, and to highlight Paris’ focus on the future that is illustrated by the identity’s contemporary treatment.

Bernard Lapasset, Co-Chairman of the Paris 2024 Bid Committee, said:

“The new visual identity of the Paris 2024 campaign reflects the values and ambitions of our bid. We believe this logo captures the essence of Paris as a forward-thinking, modern capital city that is also proud to celebrate its rich culture and heritage.

“As we progress in our campaign to host the Games in 2024, it is wonderful to be here in the heart of the city with thousands of Parisians and people from all over to world to see our bid logo displayed on an iconic global landmark.”

Tony Estanguet, Co-Chairman of the Paris 2024 Bid Committee, said:

“We believe this identity is a symbol of Paris as an international destination for innovation, creativity and aspiration, and it is a city that would be honoured to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2024.

“The colours and style of our bid emblem also evoke Paris’ great diversity and our commitment to promoting this across France and around the world in line with positive Olympic values.”

The Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, said:

“The new bid logo showcases the beauty and elegance of Paris whilst also highlighting the city’s status as a modern, dynamic and cosmopolitan global hub – a creative and inspiring centre that is constantly evolving and reinventing itself.

“Our Paris 2024 identity reflects that we are a city and nation on the move, a place that offers the world a warm welcome and a destination that can create a wonderful Olympic celebration in 2024.”

The Paris 2024 logo was designed by Dragon Rouge, an independent design agency that has its headquarters in Paris and embodies the city’s youthful spirit of creativity and innovation.

From 10 February, the Paris 2024 bid logo will be displayed on flags and street dressing across the city, including along one of Paris’ most famous avenues, the Champs Elysees.
