Pakistani Sports Journalists hold condolence meeting for veteran colleague: By Ubaid Ur Rehman

Karachi – Pakistan: The services of Pakistan’s veteran sports journalist Zafar Iqbal, who passed away last week, were remembered in a condolence meeting organized by the Sports Journalists Association Sindh (SJAS) the affiliated unit of Pakistan Sports Writers Federation at the Karachi Press Club (KPC) on October 31, 2014.

Zafar Iqbal’s colleagues, friends and senior journalists eulogized his services in the field of journalism specially in sports. Secretary General, SJAS Ubaid-ur-Rehman Awan highlighted the purpose of holding the meeting in memory of Zafar Iqbal and gave a brief account of his journalism career.

Pakistan hockey team’s head coach Olympians Shahnaz Shaikh, Coach Olympian Syed Sameer Hussain and Olympian Iftikhar Syed, along with president of Karachi City Cricket Association (KCCA) Prof Ejaz Ahmed Farooqui, recalled their long association with late Zafar Iqbal.

SJAS is affiliated to the Pakistan Sports Writers Federation (PSWF) and AIPS. It held the meeting in collaboration with the Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ) and the Karachi Press Club (KPC).

President SJAS, Rashid Ali Siddiqui announced to institute an award, dedicated to Zafar Iqbal for the young sports journalist as SJAS has already decided to launch awards for late sports journalists S. M. Naqi, Gul Hameed Bhatti, Shams-uz-Zaman and Muneer Hussain.

Zafar’s services to the profession were commended by Secretary KPC Amir Latif and seasoned journalists Maqsood Yousufi, Sajid Aziz, Nazeer Khan, Zubair Nazir, Syed Khalid Mahmood, Bachal Leghari, Ishaq Baloch and Rafiq Baloch.
