Geneva, Dec 15, 2016: The Norway Cup will host a Youth Leadership Programme (YLP) Camp, the flagship educational initiative of the UNOSDP designed for young people working in grassroots sports projects in developing countries, from 26 July to 6 August in Oslo focusing on the Sustainable Development Goals.
A corresponding Letter of Intent was signed today between the UNOSDP and the Bækkelagets Sportsklub/Norway Cup (BSKNC), supporting achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and the United Nations’ goals and objectives in the areas of peace, development and human rights, education and health.
“Major sport events such as the Norway Cup provide one of the best platforms for educational opportunities, and next year we will bring our flagship initiative to Oslo.” said Wilfred Lemke “The Youth Leadership Programme will use this opportunity to train young community role models on sport and the Sustainable development Goals, and how they together can promote development and peace. This programme will look to implement some very exciting activities with some of our most talented coaches from around the world and from major sport organisations. We look very much forward to inviting the future sport leaders to this great event.”
In order to empower youth and to work towards the Sustainable Development Goals, the BSKNC will find, screen and select participants for the two-week long Camp from countries represented at the cup and aged between 16 and 23 years old. By committing to include refugees and bringing together youth from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and the Republic of Korea, the Norway Cup uses sport as a diplomatic bridge and build more inclusive and peaceful communities.

The objective of the YLP is to support deserving young community workers who work with basic education levels and limited resources, by providing them with access to theoretical and practical training on how sport can be better used to effect positive change in their communities. Since its launch in 2012, UNOSDP held 23 YLP camps in 8 different countries educating more than 800 youth leaders. —- UNOSDP
