Korea wins first recurve gold medal

Paris, Sept 22, 2013: Korea, the top mixed team of the season, easily won the first recurve gold medal awarded in this World Cup Final over host country France.

Korea presented a mixed pair comprised of two Olympic champions who have been at the top of their game this season: YUN Ok Hee and OH Jin Hyek. Olympic team champion and individual bronze medallist at Beijing 2008, YUN is the most successful archer of the 2013 season so far, with a victory in Shanghai, a second place finish in Antalya and another victory in Wroclaw.

Her partner, OH Jin Hyek, is the undisputed world N°1. Following his victory at the London Olympic Games, he has been dominating the recurve men’s division since, with gold medals at the Shanghai and Antalya World Cup stages.

The French pair was made of Cyrielle COTRY and Gaël PREVOST. Despite his young age (19), PREVOST is a very experienced archer in this event, as he won the individual bronze medal last year.

YUN and OH, who won the mixed team gold medal at the last World Cup stage in Wroclaw, took the lead from the very start of this final. They easily won the title with a score of 152-140, giving Korea its fourth victory over France in the history of the mixed team event.

After winning this gold medal, YUN and OH will both shoot the individual semi-finals this afternoon, following their victories over – guess who? – COTRY and PREVOST in the individual quarter-finals earlier today. —- World Archery Communication
