Domadores to be staged at the Monument to the Revolution

Lausanne, August 21, 2013: Following the great success of hosting World Series of Boxing (WSB) events in Mexico City in such renowned locations as El Zócalo or the Angel of the Independence, WSB is delighted to announce that the weigh-in of the Exhibition Match between the Mexico Guerreros and the Cuba Domadores will be staged at the supreme Monument to the Revolution on August 28.

An icon in the capital city of Mexico, the Monumento a la Revolución is also known as the Arch of the Revolution. It is located on Plaza de la República which divides Revolution Avenue between the avenues Paseo de la Reforma and Avenida de los Insurgentes in downtown Mexico City. For years it has been a huge tourist attraction, one of the capital’s architectural must-sees. The open building was designed by Carlos Obregón Santacilia in an eclectic Art Deco and Mexican socialist realism style. The structure also functions as a mausoleum for the heroes of the Mexican Revolution of 1910.

This weigh-in will be the first ever boxing-related event to be held on this iconic site and is expected to attract hundreds of spectators.

“The Mexico City authorities are thrilled to work very closely with the World Series of Boxing to host this excellent global competition in our city. We can clearly see the positive impact these events have as the Guerreros are followed by thousands of fans in Mexico and abroad. Welcoming the Cuban boxing stars for this historical match brings pride to our capital and I am convinced that it greatly promotes Mexico City”, declared Mr. Miguel Ángel Mancera Espinosa, Mayor of Mexico City.

“The WSB is a concept that has already revolutionized the sport of boxing. The participation of Cuba represents another milestone in the development of the competition program. I am excited that the weigh-in of this historical match will be staged at the Monument to the Revolution, a location that symbolizes hope for the future. I am convinced that this Exhibition Match will have a huge impact and will represent very well what the next WSB season is about”, stated Dr Ching-Kuo Wu, WSB Board Chairman.
