Anvar looks forward to achieving his goals with APB

Lausanne, Switzerland, July 19th 2013 – The AIBA Pro Boxing (APB) “Boxer of the Week” campaign went to Tajikistan, the home country of the prominent Bantamweight (56kg) Anvar Yunusov.

Two time Olympian and veteran of two World Series of Boxing (WSB) seasons, Anvar Yunusov also has an impressive record in AIBA Open Boxing (AOB) competitions. The bronze medal he won in the 2013 Asian Boxing Championships was his third straight medal in this Continental competition (after taking gold in 2011). As an AIBA World Boxing Championships Baku 2011 bronze medallist and a man on his way to pro career with APB, Anvar had plenty of questions waiting for him from his fans on the APB facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/APB.Boxing) and on APB’s Twitter feed (https://twitter.com/APB_Boxing) this week.

Yunusov explained that he is hoping to get to the Olympic podium in Rio de Janeiro, not to mention his desire to conquer the pro ranks. This is why he finds the APB competition extremely important in his career. “I consider APB to be a major opportunity in my life and I am really grateful for the chance it represents for me to achieve my goals.”

The boxer also confessed that he always held back on his desire to turn pro as he had heard stories about the ruined lives of boxers who had turned pro with poor promoters. “AIBA plays fair and square and trust is so important. That is why APB is an excellent choice for all boxers who want to turn pro without any risks.”

Looking back over his two seasons in the WSB, first with the Dynamo Moscow and then with USA Knockouts, Anvar admits that besides the excellent show and the format of this competition, the WSB give boxers who still haven’t turned pro a unique opportunity to earn significant money. “That is why we should be thankful to AIBA and whoever came up with the idea of the WSB competition; they must have been a genius”, said the boxer in his interview.

APB’s “Boxer of the Week” campaign was launched on May 13th. It is designed to unveil the entire APB boxers’ roster athlete by athlete.

AIBA Pro Boxing (APB) is a pro-style boxing competition program under the governance of AIBA. Prior to the official start of the competition scheduled for 2014, AIBA will stage a number of APB exhibition bouts all around the globe. These bouts will consist of 8 rounds of 3 minutes and will feature some of the best fighters in the world. All the foreseen events will be considered as exhibitions and therefore will not affect the 2014 APB Ranking.
