Pakistan to host two International Softball events in 2019

Karachi, April 6, 2019: Ambassador Softball Federation of Pakistan (SFP) Feryal Ali Gauhar announced that Pakistan will be hosting two international events here Saturday at a local hotel.

“I am happy to announce that Pakistan will be hosting two international events this year for the first time in history.

International Olympic Committee (IOC)’s Olympic Solidarity technical course and World Baseball and Softball Confederation (WBSC)’s Softball Asia Coaching Clinic will organize this year,”

Feryal told media persons.

She added that these events will help promote the game of softball in the country and would also improve skills of local coaches and players.

Omar Associates CEO Nadeem Omar, CEO Essa Laboratories Farhan Essa, SFP Chairperson Tehmina Asif, POA EC member Waseem Hashmi, SOA Secretary Ahmed Ali Rajput, Dam Enterprises CEO Amin Merchant, SFP President Haider Khan Lehri, SFP Secretary Asif Azeem and Vice President Mohammad Zeeshan Merchant were also present on the occasion.

Feryal further announced that Inter-School Championship and Inter-City Softball League will also be organized. She added that these events will help them spot talent.

“WBSC Secretary Dato Low Beng Choo’s visit to Pakistan this year will beneficial for Pakistan,” said Feryal, who is also United Nations Goodwill Ambassador.

She said that women were now taking keen interest in the game of softball at school, college and university level.

“I wish to see our women win laurels for the country at international in the game of softball as they are doing in sports.”

“As an ambassador of softball in the country, my priority will be to provide more opportunities to women to play the game at par with their male counterparts,” she said.

Feryal believes that corporate sector should come forward to support the game and establish their respective women teams.

“We have to uplift softball infrastructure.

We also have to reach out to districts as well along with big cities in order to establish strong national women softball team.”

“Sports are not only about playing a game. Sports give physical as well as mental health while also promoting healthy environment,” she said.

Meanwhile, Nadeem Omar praised SFP for the quick progress of softball in the country.

Omar Associates is the first company to establish its women team.

“I hope players from our team will improve their game and go all the way up to the national team and represent Pakistan at the international level,” PSL franchise Quetta Gladiators owner Nadeem Omar added.On the occasion.

Farhan Essa said that his company has been endeavoring to promote sports in the country especially at grass-root level.

“Therefore we have decided to sponsor Inter-School Softball Championship this year,” Farhan said.

Asif Azeem, while giving details of events to be held in 2019, said that in collaboration with Sindh Softball Association (SSA) Inter-Divisional Women’s Floodlight Softball Championship will be held in Hyderabad from April 26 to 28.

On the occasion of World Softball Day on June 13, first Beach Softball Festival event will hold in Karachi.

Meanwhile, Pakistan umpires will participate in Softball Asia Umpiring Course in July.

Essa Laboratories Inter-School Softball Championship will hold from July 18 to 24 in Karachi.

Karachi will also host Softball Asia Pakistan Coaching Clinic from August 20 to 24 where international coaches will train Pakistan coaches and players.

The 15th edition of National Women Softball Championship will organize in Karachi from August 126 to 28.

National Men Softball Championship will hold in Abbottabad in September.

Omar Associates Inter-City Softball League will be held in Karachi in October where teams of Lahore, Quetta, Islamabad, Peshawar and host Karachi will be seen in action.

Each team will be able to feature two international players.

Foreign coaches and umpires will also invite from the league from Malaysia and Dubai.

Indonesia Softball Association has invited Pakistan to participate in Indonesia Men’s Open Championship to hold in Jakarta in October.

IOC Solidarity Technical Course will held in November in Lahore.

Lahore will also host Junior Women’s Softball Championship in December.

Haider Khan Lehri said that International Coaching Clinic and IOC technical Course will be attended by coaches of provincial associations, Islamabad and departmental teams.

Meanwhile, players who would perform well in national championships will also give chance to attend the two events. —- SFP
