Statement of Pakistan Olympic Association

Lahore – Pakistan, August 4, 2013: According to Media Manager of Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) as had been declared earlier by us, the Honorable High Court had granted a stay in the Writ Petition filed by Mahmood Naveed, against the holding of meeting by the defunct Pakistan Olympic Association led by ex-President of the POA, Lt. Gen (R) Arif Hassan.

It is regretful to note that Arif Hassan is twisting the truth by saying that they were going to hold their meeting as per the direction of the Supreme Court.

The fact of the matter is that, on the 2nd of July 2013, during the hearing of the Civil Petition No:245 of 2013 and Civil Petition No: 489-L of 2013 (Pakistan Olympic Association vs Nadeem Aftab Sindhu & Others), by the honorable judges of the Supreme Court, namely, Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja, Justice Khilji, Arif Hussain and Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, the honorable judges passed the following order:

“This order follows from our previous order dated 26-6-2013, wherein time has been sought by the parties to seek resolution of the issue without Court intervention. Let the case now be listed for hearing after summer recess”.

At no place in this order, any mention has been made by the Honorable court or any instructions have been issued to the defunct POA of Arif Hassan to hold their meeting.

Thus, by saying that they are holding their meeting as per the instructions of the Supreme Court is only an attempt to mislead everyone.
