London 2012: First ever Live 3D Coverage of an Olympic Games.

The IOC today announced an agreement has been reached between Olympic Broadcasting Services (www.obs.es) and Worldwide TOP Partner Panasonic to provide equipment and technology to enable the first ever live 3D coverage of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

“For the past two decades, Panasonic has been a valued partner of the Olympic Movement and of the Host Broadcasting organisation,” said Manolo Romero, Chief Executive of OBS.

“We are now proud to announce this partnership to realize the first ever 3D live Olympic Games, and we are confident that this unprecedented coverage will be achieved in no small part due to the assistance of the 3D technologies provided by the team at Panasonic.

Ultimately, we believe the production of the first live 3D Olympic Games will contribute toward making the 2012 London Olympic Games one of the most significant in the history of broadcasting technology.”

OBS and Panasonic are already working with the Olympic broadcast partners to finalize the sports which will be covered and establish the amount of live 3D coverage which will be made available. Currently, OBS plans to provide live 3D coverage from six Olympic venues while distributing via satellite eight to 10 hours of 3D production every day.
