‘Fans in the stands’ program sees over 10,000 pupils join inclusion revolution

Over 10,000 pupils from local schools visited the Games/Fans in stands program

Companies and organizations across the UAE also pledged hundreds of employees to attend the Games and demonstrate support for a more inclusive society/Fans in stands program

EFS Facilities Services, Department of Culture and Tourism and Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority among those to pledge the most staff/Fans in stands program

The Olympics Sports team Abdul Rahim and Muhammad Saeed, Abu Dhabi, UAE, March 20, 2019: Dozens of local schools, UAE government entities and companies came together over the last week to pledge thousands of students and employees to attend the World Games and promote a more inclusive society as part of the World Games ‘Fans in Stands’ (FITS), program.

Aldar and GEMS schools were among the schools to pledge the most pupils to attend the World Games, with over 10,000 pupils attending each of the nine Games venues.

Both Education providers also organized a number of unified events aimed at promoting unity ahead of the Games.

Other schools who have pledged students and showed their support, included Brighton College, Diyafah International School and British International School Abu Dhabi.

EFS Facilities Services, the Department of Culture and Tourism and Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority were amongst the corporate companies and entities to pledge staff, with EFS pledging 3,000 FITS over two days.

The Games not only entertained our staff but also inspired them to fight back and excel in life.

Cheering the athletes as Fans in the Stands was a wonderful opportunity for us to do our bit and we thank the Government and organizers for it.”

People from across the UAE have turned out in their thousands to help cheer on more than 7,500 athletes from over 190 nations at the Games and played an invaluable role in keeping the athletes motivated as they participated in 24 officially sanctioned Olympic-style sports.

On top of watching all the sports action, spectators have participated in the Cultural Olympiad of family-friendly entertainment on offer in Abu Dhabi and Dubai in celebration of the World Games.

Celebrations witnessed at sports venues across the UAE as people of all abilities, from every corner of the Earth came together in celebration of a brighter future for people of determination.

A Unified Champion Schools program is introducing in all public schools across Abu Dhabi to ensure a legacy leave for people of determination after the curtain closes on the Games at tomorrow’s Closing Ceremony.

The program pairs school pupils with and without intellectual disabilities and uses sport and education to connect pupils, break down barriers and change perceptions of people of determination. —- SOWG2019
