We thrilled that South Australia have committed to be part of the Bid, which will be stronger for their participation.
“It’s particularly pleasing to make this announcement on the day of the Westfield Matildas’ second match against Chile, which takes place tonight at Coopers Stadium.
“The team put in a strong performance to beat the same opponents 2-1 in Parramatta on Saturday, in front of a record crowd of 20,029.
“It shows just how popular the Matildas, and I’m sure the South Australian public will absolutely delight that Premier Marshall shares our vision and will bring matches to Adelaide should we be successful in our bid,” Gallop added.
Premier Marshall said that the State Government is ready and excited to assist in bringing the 2023 Women’s World Cup to Australia.
“The FIFA Women’s World Cup is a massive event to add to our sporting calendar, and Adelaide will be a fantastic location for the competition,” said Premier Steven Marshall.
“The Matildas are a shining example of Australian sporting prowess and hosting the World Cup will allow them to showcase their skills on the biggest stage in their own backyard.”
The Westfield Matildas versus Chile game at Coopers Stadium kicks off at 7.30pm ACDT tonight.
