Sculptures set for unveiling EuroBasket2017

Munich, Aug 30, 2016: FIBA EuroBasket 2017 host cities Cluj-Napoca, Helsinki, Istanbul and Tel-Aviv, will be marking one year to the tip-off of Europe’s premier basketball event this Wednesday by unveiling sculptures in each of the cities.

Not only does it mark one year to the start of the event, it is also the first day of the FIBA EuroBasket 2017 Qualifiers, which will determine the remaining 11 teams to make up the field of 24 (the four host nations have already been joined by the teams that played in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments and Rio 2016).

The sculptures will spell out #EuroBasket2017 and will be placed in an iconic location in each of the cities, offering tourists, fans and locals alike the chance to be part of the event, by taking a selfie with the sculpture which can then become part of a FIBA EuroBasket 2017 Mosaic. Once people have taken their selfie, they simply need to upload it publicly on Instagram with the hashtag #FIBAEuroBasket2017, for it then to become part of the mosaic.

Eroilor Blvd in Cluj Napoca, Helsinki Central Train Station, Abdi Ipekci Arena in Istanbul, and the Port of Tel-Aviv are the sites of the sculptures.

The unveiling of the sculptures is just the first in a number of promotional activities that are set to take place in the build up to FIBA EuroBasket 2017, which brings together the best 24 men’s teams in Europe from 31 August to 17 September in their quest to be crowned European champions. —- FIBA
