CAS Imposes a 2Year Suspension on Zoltan

Lausanne, July 26, 2012: Zoltan Kovago, The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has rendered its decision in the urgent appeal filed by the International Athletics Association (IAAF) against the decision of the Doping Committee of the Hungarian National Anti-doping Organisation dated 6 June 2012 exonerating the Hungarian discus thrower Zoltan Kövago from any sanction. The CAS Panel was comfortably satisfied that the athlete refused or failed without compelling justification to submit to sample collection after Notification or otherwise evaded sample collection on 11 August 2011.

The case was referred by the IAAF to the Hungarian Athletics Association and the Doping Committee of the Hungarian National Anti-Doping Organisation found the athlete not guilty and did not sanction him. On 6 July 2012, the IAAF filed an appeal at the CAS in Lausanne.

The CAS Panel in charge of this case found that Zoltan Kövago was guilty of an anti violation and sanctioned him with a two-year period of ineligibility. The full award with the grounds will be notified to the parties in a few weeks. —- CAS
