Tokyo 2020 Joins United Nations Global Compact

Tokyo, July 25, 2018: The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Tokyo 2020) announced Friday that it joined the Tokyo 2020 Joins United Nations Global Compact, a worldwide initiative encouraging businesses to align their strategies and operations with Ten Principles governing human rights, labour regulations, the environment and anti-corruption measures.

The Global Compact also incorporates strategic actions aimed at advancing broader societal initiatives such as the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

As of July 2018, over 13,000 companies, public sector organisations and others in about 160 countries around the world are supporting the UN Global Compact.

Together with its guiding principle of “Be better, together – for the planet and the people”, Tokyo 2020 published in June this year its latest strategic plan governing sustainability activities for the preparation and operations of the Tokyo 2020 Games.

The plan is aligned with the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact, making Tokyo 2020 a participant in, and supporter of, that initiative.

Tokyo 2020 is committed to continuing its efforts and intends to work with its partners and supporting organisations to realise a truly sustainable society.
