Sochi – Russia, Jan 09, 2013: The first test events at the Adler Arena, the speed skating venue for the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, took place at the end of December 2012. In March 2013, the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee will hold the main pre-Games test event at the venue: the Essent ISU World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships.
The Adler Arena has been designed as an oval-shaped stadium with two competition tracks and one training track. The dimensions of the Adler Arena meet the requirements of the International Skating Union (track length: 400 m). In particular, the ice track has been designed with optimal micro-climatic conditions to ensure ice suitable for world class speed skating events.
Svetlana Zhurova, Olympic champion and Sochi 2014 Ambassador said: “I think the Adler Arena in the Olympic Park is one of the most beautiful and, most importantly, well designed technical and functional venues. I am sure that fans and athletes alike will love the design and internal structure of the skating center. I remember that during the Sochi 2014 bid, I commented positively on the architectural concept of the stadium which I really liked; and it’s really wonderful that this venue is already now hosting test events! It is important that we take full advantage of learning from the current test events to ensure we host the highest standard World Championships in March 2013.”
Ivan Skobrev, two-time Olympic medalist, 2011 all-round world champion, and Sochi 2014 Ambassador said: “Cool ice, cool palace; I really loved everything! And the great support that we got from the spectators was really heartening. I can hardly wait for the Olympic events.” —- Sochi 2014
