Paris 2024 leaders set out key elements of the city’s Olympic and Paralympic Games vision and concept

Paris, Sept 15, 2015: Following the submission of Paris’ official application letter to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the leaders of the city’s bid for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games have today set out further key elements of their campaign vision and concept.

Bernard Lapasset, President of Paris 2024, said:

“Paris has been working hard over the past two years to prepare its bid for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games and we are delighted now to express key elements of our vision and concept following the submission of our application letter to the IOC. Paris 2024 would be the 100 year anniversary of the last time we hosted the Games so it is our promise to the Olympic Movement that a centenary Games here will be an outstanding celebration of Olympism and we would throw an amazing party to mark this momentous occasion.

“The Games in the birthplace of the founder of the modern Olympic Movement, Pierre de Coubertin, will additionally be a wonderful tribute to the powerful global legacy he helped to create. It will remind us of a great sporting past and the enduring nature of Olympic values as we look to the future embracing innovation and the ongoing importance of inspiration and education.”

Anne Hidalgo, the Mayor of Paris, said:

“Over the course of this bid campaign we will be highlighting Paris’ strength as one of the world’s most iconic, innovative, cosmopolitan, sporty and culturally rich cities whose historic landmarks and breath-taking venues would provide a stunning backdrop for the Games.

“We will show how our vision fits perfectly with the social, environmental and infrastructure plans of the city and how we are committed to creating new sporting opportunities for young people who will be inspired by the power of the Games. It is also very important that this bid has the support of all three levels of government which provides certainty to all our pledges.”

Tony Estanguet, IOC Member in France and three-time Olympic Gold Medallist, said:

“The French people have a passion not just for some but for all Olympic sport and this passion is embedded in French culture. The 2024 Games in Paris will add to this passion and boost interest and participation in all Olympic sport in Paris, across France and beyond.

“With a track record hosting a huge variety of sports in the recent past and over the next few years, as well as a being home to a large urban population of 11 million, Paris 2024 will deliver packed venues for every single sport across the Games.” —- By Amelia Fisher-Starzynski
