Gong Xi Fa Cai

The Office Bearers and members of OCM wish to extend their greetings to all Chinese members of OCM, NSAs, Sponsors, Media, Volunteers, Supporters and Friends, ‘Xin Nian Kuai Le’ and ‘Gong Xi Fa Cai’ for the Year of the Dragon, which falls on 23rd January 2012.

Congratulations

The Office Bearers and members of the Olympic Council of Malaysia extend their congratulations Cik Nur Suryani Mohd Taibi for achieving a quota place in the Women’s 10m air rifle event to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games, at the Asian Shooting Championships held in Doha on 15th January 2012. She scored 499.7 points to finish in fifth position, to become the first Malaysian shooter to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Condolence

The Office Bearers and members of OCM wish to extend our condolences to the family of the late Encik Mohd Abdul Rahman, who passed away peacefully on 16th January 2012. The late Encik Mohd Abdul Rahman, represented Malaysia in Athletics at the 1961 and 1965 Southeast Asian (SEAP) Games, the Perth 1962 Empire Games, the Jakarta 1962 Asian Games and the Tokyo 1964 Olympic Games, where he participated in the 400m and 800m and the 4 X 400m Relay events. At the 2nd SEAP Games 1961, he won a gold medal in the 4 X 400m Relay and a bronze medal in the 800m.

12th OCM Conference 2012

The 12th OCM Conference will be held on Saturday, 10th March 2012, at 9.30 a.m., at Level 2C, OCM Indoor Sports Complex, Wisma OCM, Kuala Lumpur. The main speaker will be Prof. Leigh Robinson, the Lead Consultant of the Research Study on ‘Developing the Sport Industry’ of Malaysia. The Theme of the Conference will be ‘Developing the Capacity of National Sports Associations’, based on the Report submitted by the Consultants, on one theme out of the five themes studied under the research by the team of Prof. Leigh Robinson.

The Research Study was on the following 5 themes:

• Developing the Capacity of National Sports Associations.

• A benchmarking of the sports industry in Malaysia.

• An evaluation of sport retailing.

• An investigation into financial management models.

• Sponsorships.

All NSAs affiliated to OCM are requested to send two representatives to attend the 12th OCM Conference on 10th March 2012, and also to study the Report on ‘Developing the Capacity of National Sports Associations’, which had been distributed to them towards the end of 2011.

15th NOA Session for Young Participants, 27th February to 3rd March 2012

The 15th National Olympic Academy for Young Participants will be organised from 27th February to 3rd March 2012. The venue will be at Wisma OCM, Kuala Lumpur. As in past years, the best Malaysian male and the best Malaysian female participant, of the 15th Session will be selected to participate in the 52nd International Olympic Academy Session for Young Participants, to be held in Olympia, Greece, sometime from 16th to 30th June 2012. Preference will be given to participants who are former or present national athletes nominated by their National Sports Associations. The participants are from 20 years to 35 years.

National Sports Associations are invited to submit their present and retired national athletes to attend the 15th National Olympic Academy Session for Young Participants. To date, many young representatives from the National Sports Associations have attended past National Olympic Academy Sessions and have found the sessions very beneficial. In addition the opportunity to be selected to attend the 52nd International Olympic Academy Session for Young Participants, to be held in Olympia, is a great attraction for the participants to attend the NOA Session.

OCM Sports Goodwill Ambassadors Annual Gathering 2012 –

The 2012 OCM Sports Goodwill Ambassadors Annual Gathering will be held on Saturday, 28th January 2012, immediately after the 163rd OCM Council meeting, at 11.30 a.m. at Wisma OCM, Kuala Lumpur. The speakers are Dr. Selina Khoo, Sports Management Lecturer at the University of Malaya, who will speak on volunteerism in sport and Encik Charles Aitken David, Secretary General of the Malaysian Olympians Association and Olympic Hockey Player at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games, who will speak on the Malaysian Olympians Association and the World Olympians Association. The talks will be very interesting and informative and participants will have the opportunity to learn more on these two topics. All are welcomed. Lunch will be served after the talks.

5th Advanced Sport Management Course (ASMC) 2012

The 5th Advanced Sport Management Course (ASMC) 2012 will be conducted over an eight month period with a first session of three days followed by three sessions of four days per session. In total 15 days will be devoted to face-to-face in class learning and the days in between sessions will be devoted to distance learning and completion of case studies.

The course schedule is as follows:

• Session 1 from 23rd to 25th March 2012, covering the modules ‘Organizing an Olympic Sports Organization’ and ‘Managing Strategically’.

• Session 2 from 10th to 13th May 2012, covering the modules ‘Managing Human Resources’ and ‘Managing Finance’.

• Session 3 from 12th to 15th July 2012, covering the modules ‘Managing Marketing’ and ‘Organizing a Major Sport Event’.

• Session 4 from 4th to 7th October 2012 and will cover the Presentation and Discussion and the Learning Process by and with the participants.

The main content for the modules will be derived from the book, “Managing Olympic Sport Organizations”, developed in cooperation with MEMOS (Executive Masters in Sport Organizations Management).

This book provides the primary content for the learning experience and is the framework for delivery of the course. The materials presented are taken from Olympic Sport Organizations throughout the world and represent a balance of sport management theory and practical examples of best practices, providing a rich and extensive database of applied materials.

The use of the book as the standard referral text will enable participants to identify what is and is not appropriate for their organisations and learn how to specifically apply the information to improve their organizations.

The course will be held at Level 2B, OCM Indoor Sports Complex, Olympic Council of Malaysia Jalan Hang Jebat , 50150 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
