Official Opening of Billy Dance Art Studio
Encik Billy Yong (26 years), who together with his partner, Ms. Carmen Choo (23 years), were awarded an OCM Trust Fund Grant of RM10,000/= in 2011, to enable them to train for 18 months at the Beijing Dance Academy in Beijing, China. The Beijing Dance Academy is an exclusive government Dance Academy where the top dancers of China undergo intensive training in all forms of dancing, from ballet, to traditional and modern. The training in Beijing improved the dance standards of Billy and Carmen very much. On their return to Malaysia at the third quarter of 2012, they turned professional.
As professional dancers, they can only participate in profession dance competitions, where there is prize money to be won. They however, can also become full-time dance teachers. Billy Yong has just started his own Dance Studio, the Billy Dance Art, which was officially declared opened on Saturday, 13th April 2013. The Billy Dance Art is located at 61A, Lorong Sentosa 4, Taman Bayu Tinggi, Klang.
Billy Yong thanked the Malaysian DanceSport Berhad for recommending their application for a grant from the OCM Trust Fund and also thanked the Trust Fund for approving the Grant for him and Carmen to train in Beijing. He stated that the grant although not quite sufficient was a great help, as it encouraged a couple of other sponsors to provide some support to Carmen and him to train in Beijing. The training and exposure in Beijing improved their dancing and also gave them confidence and strengthen their belief in their ability to achieve their ambitions, which are to be top dancers internationally. As professional dancers, they are still taking lessons to improve their standards to compete at international competitions. Teaching dancing would be their means of living and to be independent financially.
The Olympic Council of Malaysia wishes both Billy and Carmen the best in their careers as professional dancers.
