Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games

Lausanne, July 31, 2014: Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games, There are just over two weeks to go until the Opening Ceremony of the Nanjing Youth Olympic Games, which are being held from 16 to 28 August. For those who are travelling to Nanjing, and for those who will be reporting on the event remotely, you will find below some information essential for your coverage of the Games:

• The Xinhua News Agency has been appointed as the Host Photo Agency for the Nanjing YOG and will supply professional sports photographic coverage of the YOG, distributed via its wire service and published on http://www.nanjing2014.org/en/photos.htm. An additional photo gallery will provide 75-150 high-resolution photographs on a daily basis. These images will be made available, copyright free (for editorial non-commercial use), for download.

Editorial Content:
The Youth Info Service (YIS) is a professional sports-reporting service established and run by the IOC to cover the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games. The goal of YIS is to create quality sports editorial coverage of the competitions, the athletes, ceremonies and the Learn and Share activities (Culture and Education Programme).

The YIS coverage will include detailed sports reports on the competitions, feature articles on emerging young athletes and articles focusing on the different cultural and educational initiatives featured in the YOG. All stories are posted on www.nanjing2014.org and will be freely available for use, free of copyright, for editorial purposes.

GAMES-TIME MEDIA EVENTS AND OPPORTUNITIES
Press conferences:
Two IOC press conferences will take place during the Games:
• 16 August at 2 p.m. (local time): Opening press conference with IOC President Thomas Bach

• 28 August at 3 p.m. (local time): Closing press conference with IOC President Thomas Bach

ADDITIONAL MEDIA OPPORTUNITIES
There will be interview opportunities with:

• 104 YOG Ambassadors who have been mandated to promote the Games in their respective countries and support the athletes during Games time.

• Athlete Role Models (ARMs) – to see the full list. ARMs are the Olympians and champions who will be mentoring the 3,800 participating athletes.

There will be additional media opportunities:

• Culture and Education Programme: A full programme will be available for athletes to learn essential skills and gain knowledge, covering topics such as healthy eating, the dangers of doping and illegal betting, environmental protection and advice on their future careers. In addition, a team of 104 Young Ambassadors will guide and support the athletes through this programme, while 34 Young Reporters will be actively covering the Games.

• For the first time, we will introduce the Nanjing 2014 Sports Lab, an initiative that invites four exciting new sports to showcase themselves at the YOG. For Nanjing, we will see skateboarding, sport climbing, roller sports and wushu, which will each bring 16 international and Chinese top athletes in their sports to perform live at the urban Sports Lab venue.

IOC Social Media, Blogging and Internet Guidelines: The IOC actively promotes the use of the Internet and social media by accredited persons. The “IOC Social Media, Blogging and Internet Guidelines for persons accredited at the Youth Olympic Games” will help those wishing to develop Olympic-related web activity in connection with the upcoming Youth Olympic Games.

News Access Rules: News Access Rules apply to television and radio broadcasting by non-rights holding broadcast organisations only.

Photographers’ Undertaking: Photographers are required to sign a “Photographers’ Undertaking” as a part of the accreditation process. The Undertaking stipulates that images taken by accredited photographers at Nanjing 2014 can be used freely for still photographic editorial purposes, on any platform, and that the use of such photographs for advertising or any other commercial purpose is expressly prohibited by the IOC. Photographers will sign the Undertaking upon collection of their Photo Bib at the Photo Help Desk of the MPC.

Media Briefing for Accredited Media: A media briefing for accredited media will be held in the main press conference room of the Main Press Centre at 3 p.m. on 14 August. At this meeting, Nanjing and IOC Media Operations will present the facilities and services available for the media at the Youth Olympic Games, such as the Main Press Centre, venues, Youth Olympic Village, transport, photo operations, the Opening Ceremony filming in the venues and Village Square, and other topics.

Main Press Centre: The Main Press Centre (MPC) is located at the Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre. The Main Media Centre (MMC) houses the IBC and the MPC. The Media Accreditation Centre is adjacent to the MMC.

IOC office at the Main Press Centre: The IOC Communications and Media Relations office will be based at the MPC.

YOV Village Square: The YOV Village Square will be located adjacent to the residential zone of the Youth Olympic Village. It will host a number of activities for the athletes and is where much of the Learn and Share programme of the YOG will be held. All media are permitted to use professional video equipment in the YOV Village Square, and footage taken in the YOV Village Square will not be considered subject to the time restrictions contained in the News Access Rules. —- IOC
