Lausanne, May 13, 2013: HRH Prince Philippe and HRH Princess Mathilde of Belgium paid an official courtesy visit today to their compatriot and International Olympic Committee President, Jacques Rogge, at the IOC headquarters in Lausanne.
Their Royal Highnesses met President Rogge and a delegation from the Belgian National Olympic Committee, including President Pierre-Olivier Beckers and Secretary General Guido de Bondt, for over an hour. The visit included a presentation on the Olympic Movement and a tour of the headquarters, during which the Prince and Princess signed the IOC’s official guestbook. The visit concluded with a tour of The Olympic Museum, which is currently being housed on a boat on Lake Geneva while the main site undergoes renovations.
“It was a tremendous honour to welcome HRH Prince Philippe and HRH Princess Mathilde to the IOC headquarters in Lausanne,” said President Rogge, whose 12-year term at the helm of the IOC comes to a close at the 125th IOC Session in September. “They are both great sports fans and have long supported sporting initiatives in Belgium, and it was a pleasure to speak with them on the many initiatives undertaken by the Olympic Movement at grassroots and elite levels.” —- IOC/Richard Juilliart
