By: John Zerafa: Moscow, April 13, 2012: A high level delegation led by Qatar’s Heir Apparent, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, and Chairman of the Doha 2020 bid, will present Doha’s bid to host the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games to the Association of National Olympic Committees [ANOC] this weekend in Moscow. Joining His Highness in the Doha 2020 delegation is:
∙ Sheikha al Mayassa bint Hamad Al Thani, Vice Chairman of Doha 2020
∙ Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Secretary General of the Qatar Olympic Committee and Vice Chairman of Doha 2020
∙ Noora Al Mannai, Chief Executive of Doha 2020
∙ Mohammed Sulaiman, the first Qatari to win an Olympic medal in Barcelona in 1992
∙ Ms Nada Mohammed Wafa Arakji, who will represent Qatar in swimming at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Commenting on the ANOC General Assembly, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, said:
“This General Assembly marks an important moment in the development of ANOC. We have an opportunity to present the different visions for the 2020 Games and we have seen a significant development in the leadership of the organization.
“I would like to offer my congratulations to Shk. Ahmed Al Sabah on his appointment as President. It is a time of change and I wish him well for the future.
“At this time it also right to acknowledge the remarkable contributions of Don Mario Vazquez Rana since ANOC’s inception. He must feel very proud of what has been built and his leadership has been crucial.”
Commenting on Doha 2020’s presentation to ANOC’s General Assembly on Saturday, Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, said:
“The ANOC General Assembly is an important milestone in the 2020 bidding process. We are delighted to be here on behalf of the Qatar Olympic Committee and the Doha 2020 bid.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to spend time with our colleagues in the Olympic Movement, look forward to a great Olympic year and set out our vision for Doha 2020. A vision which is focused on delivering great Games and building lasting legacies for generations to come.”
Noora Al-Mannai, CEO of Doha 2020, added:
“Our team is delighted and honoured to be presenting Doha’s bid to ANOC tomorrow. “This is not just Qatar’s bid but a bid for a dynamic and changing region. “We want to use our presentation to set out the exciting and unique opportunities that we believe Doha 2020 offers to the Olympic Movement. “We want to show that this is a special time in our region, a time to Inspire Change among young people and to help empower girls and women through sport.”
