XVIII ANOC General Assembly 2012

The XVIII ANOC General Assembly was held at the World Trade Centre, Moscow from 13th to 16th April 2012. Due to the sudden resignation of the founder President of ANOC, Mr. Mario Vazques Rana, the General Assembly on 13th April elected Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahd Al-Sabah, as the new President until the XIX ANOC General Assembly in 2014. In addition the General Assembly elected Mr. Patrick Hickey, ANOC Vice President for Europe and President of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) to take over Mr. Mario Vazques Rana on the IOC Executive Board.

The General Assembly received reports of the 5 Continental Associations, the Secretary General’s report, the Reports of the Treasurer and the Auditor and the Report of Olympic Solidarity. The General Assembly also received presentations from the 5 applicant cities for the 2020 Olympic Games, namely, Baku, Doha, Istanbul, Madrid and Tokyo. There were also briefings by LOCOG and future host cities, Sochi 2014, Rio 2016 and PeongChang 2018, as well as presentation by past and future Youth Olympic Games host cities, namely, Innsbruck 2012, Nanjing 2014 and Lillehammer 2016.

Interesting and informative papers were presented on Athletes Commission, Women and Sport, International Council for Arbitration for Sport (ICAS), Fight against irregular and illegal betting, Fight against doping, IOC Entourage Commission, World Olympians Association, and Generation for Peace.

In the joint with the IOC Executive Board, the following were the resolutions approved by the General Assembly:

• The gratitude to the IOC and President Rogge for its firm support to ANOC in its efforts to its defend and preserve the autonomy and of National Olympic Co0mmittees.

• The strong commitment of ANOC President in cooperation with the Vice Presidents and the National Olympic Committees to immediate action and support to NOCs in conflict with their governments.

• The ANOC General Assembly firmly condemns the intervene of the Government authorities of Ecuador in the internal operations and election process of the national sports federations which violates the principle of autonomy of the Olympic Movement in close coordination with the IOC and the International Federations concerned, the ANOC General Assembly calls on the government authorities to respect the autonomy of the national sports organizations belonging to the Olympic Movement which must be free from any political interference.

• Ratify its full support to the fulfillment of the provisions regarding the rights the right of the NOCs with respect to sports clothing and clothing for ceremonies, therefore, only the NOCs’ logo may be allowed in such clothing, as established in the Olympic Charter.

• Express its disposition to fully support the efforts of the International Olympic Committee and the Olympic Movement to face illegal betting in sport. ANOC and the IOC shall decide the activities to undertake to promote a common position in all continents and recommend a special code as it is for ant doping with sanctions.

• Request the IOC, in cooperation with the NOCs, to strengthen the efforts for implementing the goal to have at least 20% women in decision making positions, as well as take a strong position for all its Member NOCs of the right of women to practice sport and to participate in the Youth Games and Olympic Games.

• Request the IOC to continue inviting to the IOC’s Sessions the members if the ANOC Executive Board and a representative number of NOCs to IOC Sessions.

• Request the IOC to facilitate resources to finance participation of NOCs in the upcoming Chefs de Mission in Sochi in 2013 as well as in Nanjing in 2013, and make sure that this cost is covered in the host city contract in upcoming games.

• Request the IOC to provide for a second breakfast as tradition is in the official hotel for Presidents and General for the Olympic Games in London.

The Young Reporters English Writing Workshop on 27th April 2012 OCM will be for 50 school children from 12 years to 16 years. In order to select the 50 school children to attend the Workshop, OCM with the support of MSSM, is organising an Asian Games Writing Competition for School Children in Kuala Lumpur from 12 years to 16 years. The closing date is 18th April and the top 50 writers will attend the Young Reporters English Writing Workshop on 27th April 2012 at Wisma OCM at 2.30 p.m.

Hearing of the Two Malaysian Athletes with Adverse: Analytical Findings at the 26th SEA Games 2011

The Hearing of Weightlifter, Encik Firdaus Abd. Razak, who incurred an adverse analytical finding at the 26th SEA Games 2011 was held on Monday, 9th April 2012, at the OCM Board Room, 1st Floor, Wisma OCM, at 5.00 p.m.

The members of the Committee are Y.Bhg. Dato’ A. Sani Karim, Deputy President of OCM, who is the Chairman, Y.Bhg. Datuk Naim Mohamad, Chef de Mission of the Malaysian Contingent to the 26th SEA Games, Y.Bhg. Dato’ Dr. S.S. Cheema, member of the SEA Games Federation Medical and Anti-Doping Committee and Dato’ Sieh Kok Chi.

The Sport Administrators Course (SAC 2012/1)

The Sport Administrators Course (SAC 2012/1) would be organized by OCM as scheduled on the 19th to 21st April 2012. The brochure and registration form are already in the OCM website. Mr. Stanley Charles Louis is the National Course Director (NCD) for the Course. To date 30 applicants have signed up to attend the course.
