Announcement of Number of Applicants for City Volunteers Tokyo 2020

Tokyo, Oct 23, 2018: The Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) is proud to announce that the number of applicants for City Volunteers Tokyo 2020, who will welcome guests and act as the face of the host city for the Tokyo 2020 Games, has reached 6,012 as of 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday 23 October.

Applications started being accepted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday 26 September.

Overview of the Volunteer Program

1. Application Period/City Volunteers Tokyo 2020:

Wednesday 26 September 2018 starting at 1:00 p.m. to Wednesday 5 December 2018 closing at 12:00 p.m.

* Applications are not registered on a first-come-first-served basis.

2. Number of Recruits: Approximately 20,000* Individuals

*A total of 30,000 individuals will become City Volunteers. This includes approximately 10,000 individuals as follows:

-Applicants from Tokyo-based universities

-Applicants who receive recommendations from municipalities within Tokyo (approximately 5,000 individuals)

3. Number of Applicants as of 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday 23 October

Total of 6,012 applicants
Breakdown of applicants:
60% of applicants are female
A wide range of age groups have applied. (Almost 50% of applicants are teens to 40’s)

4. Other

The number of applicants for Games Volunteers has reached 52,249* (with 92,920 registering with the Games Volunteers “My Page”) as announced by the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games today.
