City Football Schools Host Unified Clinic For Special Olympics Athletes

The Olympics Sports team Abdul Rahim and Muhammad Saeed, Abu Dhabi, UAE, March 18, 2019: The City Football Schools coaching team passed on its expertise and knowledge to a group of Special Olympics athletes as part of the Special Olympics Unified Sports Experiences, this week.

Dozens of Special Olympics athletes came together and enhanced their football skills in a clinic, which saw them participate in an interactive clinic at Zayed Sports City.

The Special Olympics Unified Sports Experiences provide an opportunity for honored guests, VIPs and sponsors to participate alongside Special Olympic athletes.

The events aim to promote inclusion and break down barriers by bringing together people with and without intellectual disabilities and allowing them to play on teams alongside each other.

Jonny Marsh, Select Squad Coach at City Football Schools, said; “It’s great to be here and to meet some of the Special Olympics athletes. The kids really enjoyed the clinic today.

The Special Olympics Puerto Rico team participated in this morning’s clinic and yesterday we worked with Special Olympics Korea. We’re all really looking forward to coming back tomorrow and working with more athletes.”

City Football Schools provide authentic and creative football coaching programs for players of all ages and abilities utilising the coaching philosophy and methodology of Manchester City.

Manchester City Football Club previously hosted a coaching session with coaches and players for the Special Olympics UAE Football team at Haas Park in Chicago to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Special Olympics movement, last summer.

Football is one of the 24 Olympic-style sports that is taking place at Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019.

The Special Olympics UAE football team has performed well in the group stages, beating South Africa and Jamaica to reach the second stage.

Football made its debut at the World Games in 1986 and has become one of the largest sports on the program, featuring traditional and unified teams across the 11-a-side, 7-a-side and futsal competitions. —- SOWG2019
