Belarus to Host 3×3 U18 European Championships

Munich, Feb 09, 2015: FIBA Europe has assigned Belarus as the hosts for this summer’s men’s and women’s 3×3 U18 European Championships. The events will take place in the country’s capital Minsk, between 21-23, August 2015.

16 teams will contest the men’s championship and the same number of teams will enter the women’s event.

Belarus, as hosts, earn an outright berth in both events, while the remaining 30 spots will be determined through three qualifying tournaments in July and August. Details about the qualifiers will be released at a later date.

“I congratulate the Belarusian Basketball Federation on being awarded this summer’s 3×3 U18 European Championships,” FIBA Europe President Turgay Demirel said. “I’m sure this will be an exciting event for players and fans alike.”

FIBA Regional Director Europe, Kamil Novak added: “The Belarus organisers aim to use the event to turn 3×3 into a national pastime, while using the championships as a stepping stone for a lasting basketball legacy in the country – a rather ambitious but nevertheless brilliant plan.”

“We understand not only the privilege of hosting the 2015 3×3 U18 European Championships, but also the huge responsibility, and therefore we will do our best to make it a memorable and festive basketball event that will prove Belarus as a reliable and respectable partner of the FIBA family,” commented Maksim Ryzhenkov, President of the Belarusian Basketball Federation.

The 2015 3×3 U18 European Championships is the first edition of the event which will be organised bi-annually. —- FIBAEurope
