Doha-Qatar, Jan 30, 2012: Doha 2020 Builds Team, Doha 2020, the organisation bidding to host the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, has announced further additions to its team including Fahad Juma, Deputy CEO and Technical Director; Tariq Falamazi, Legal Director; and Fatma Al-Ghanim, Marketing and Communications Director.
In addition, Doha 2020 has confirmed that it will unveil its bid logo and slogan in Doha on February 10th at the annual community fun day event Wheels n’ Heels, which promotes physical activity and healthy lifestyles in Qatar.
The official Doha 2020 bid website will also be launched that day. Commenting on these developments, Noora Al Mannai, CEO of Doha’s 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games bid, said today:
“We are building a talented Bid Committee and these latest appointments further strengthen our team as we head into an important phase of the 2020 campaign.
“The unveil of our bid logo and slogan and the launch of the new website are all important building blocks in our bid to host the first ever Olympic and Paralympic Games in the Middle East.
“Our Applicant File is also now in the very final stages of production. We are proud of its content and the hosting plans and legacy vision it contains, and look forward to making its contents public next month after it is submitted to the IOC.”The Doha 202 leadership team includes:
His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Doha 2020 President;
H.H. Sheikh Tamim has considerable experience in sport. He has been a member of the International Olympic Committee and the Sport for All Commission since 2003, is President of the Qatar National Olympic Committee, and was Chairman of the 2006 Asian Games, Doha – the first Asian Games where all 45 nations of the Olympic Council of Asia competed. He was also recently confirmed as President of the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee.
H.H. Sheikh Tamim also holds a number of significant political positions within Qatar, including Chairman of the Supreme Education Council, President of the Supreme Council of Health and is Chairman of the Urban Planning and Development Authority.
H.H. Sheikh Tamim is also actively engaged in regional diplomacy and co-chaired, with British Foreign Secretary William Hague, the Libya Contact Group hosted in Doha in 2011.
Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Doha 2020 Vice President;
Sheikha Mayassa is Chair of Qatar’s Museums Authority and holds the same position at the Doha Film Institute. Leading these cultural initiative have led to the opening of the Museum of Islamic Art by I.M.Pei in 2008, the opening of Mathaf by Jean-Francois Bodin in 2010 with plans underway for the opening of the Qatar Sports and Olympic Museum by Joan Sibina, and Qatar National Museum designed by Jean Nouvel, in 2014 and 2015 respectively.
She is also Chairperson of Reach Out To Asia, an organization that grew from the desire to help the victims of recent natural disasters in Asia. This initiative is also intended to develop primary and secondary education in the least developed countries across Asia including the Middle East.
Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, Doha 2020 Vice President;
Sheikh Saoud has held many high offices in the sporting world, including Vice-President of the International Fencing Federation, President of the Qatar Fencing Federation, Board Member of the GCC Sports Commission and Vice President of the Olympic Council of Asia.
He was Director General of the 17th Arabian Gulf Cup in Qatar, 2004; Director General of the 3rd West Asian Games in Qatar, 2005; board of the Organising Committee for the 15th Doha Asian Games 2006; board director Doha 2016; Chairman of the Organising Committee of the IAAF World Indoor Championships Doha 2010; Chairman of the Organising Committee of 12th Pan Arab Games, Doha 2011; and member of the IOC Sport and Environment Commission. Sheikh Saoud has been Secretary General of Qatar Olympic Committee since 2002.
Noora Al-Mannai, Doha 2020 Chief Executive Officer;
Prior to becoming CEO of Doha 2020, Noora was Project Director of Enterprise Qatar, an organisation set up in 2008 under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Emir of Qatar, to champion Small and Medium sized business entities (SMEs).
Noora has spearheaded the establishment and roll out of the organisation which promotes entrepreneurial activity in Qatar. Noora also has significant financial and operational experience. She launched the first local equity fund in Qatar, successfully led the first non-Qatari IPO on the Doha Exchange and became the first female Board Director of a listed company in Qatar. She is also a founding member of Young Arab Leaders.
Fahad Juma, Doha 2020 Deputy Chief Executive Officer & Technical Director:
Fahad holds a BSc in Electrical Engineering, Communications & Electronics from Kuwait University and is a Certified Project Management Professional-PMP and a Former PMI-AGC (Project Management Institute) Director in Qatar.
Fahad has over 13 years experience as a senior executive managing complex client projects and driving business development in multiple sectors including ICT and technology. He is also Vice Chairman of the Qatar Internet Society.
Tariq Falamazi, Doha 2020 Legal Director;
Tariq holds a BA in Law and Business and Administration from the University of Kent, UK. Prior to joining Doha 2020, Tariq was Principal Legal Counsel for Al-Jazeera Media Network [Doha], Legal Counsel for RasGas [Doha], and Foreign Associate, Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP [New York].
He is also a Founding Member of QLRS – the Qatari legal society which brings together the next generation of Qatari lawyers to promote a better understanding of the domestic legal system.
Fatma Al-Ghanim, Doha 2020 Marketing & Communications Director;
Fatma holds a BA in Economics from the University of Texas at Austin and is soon to complete a Masters Degree in Business Administration from The Fuqua School of Business, Duke University. Prior to joining Doha 2020, Fatma was Marketing Manager for the Qatar International Petroleum Company where she focused on building the company’s global brand profile and implementing the marketing and sales strategy for the organisation. Fatma is a keen follower of many sports – particularly soccer.
