YLP Participant Killed in Nepal Earthquake

Geneva, Switzerland (UNOSDP), May 12, 2015: The United Nations Office on Sport for Development and Peace is deeply saddened by the news about passing away of Jit Bahadur Khadka who died in the devastating earthquake that struck Nepal on 25 April.

The 28-year old Nepalese para-athlete competed for his country on the international sporting stage. In 2008, he became the first ever representative of Nepal to participate in a Summer Paralympic Games. As well as his athletic career, he was actively involved in developing disability sport programmes and providing education for all in remote areas of the country.

In January 2014, Jit participated in the Tokyo edition of the UNOSDP Youth Leadership Programme, where he proved his great ability and determination to change the life of people in his community for better through sport.

We grieve the loss of the talented young leader and convey our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends, and to all those affected by this horrific natural disaster.
