IHF News, May 29 2012: World Handball Player, Heidi Löke (Norway, club: Audi ETO Györ KC) and Mikkel Hansen (Denmark, club: AG Kobenhavn) had been elected World Handball Players of the Year 2011 by fans, media and an IHF expert jury. Both players will receive their awards, including a cheque to the amount of EUR 10,000 sponsored by IHF partner Grundfos, in the Boxen Arena in Herning, Denmark on 2 June, prior to the final of the Danish men’s league between AG Kobenhavn vs. Bjerringbro Silkeborg (throw-off time 21:00 hrs local time).
The award will be handed over by IHF President Dr Hassan Moustafa and Kim Klastrup, Director Corporate Brand Development at Grundfos.
Hansen was the first ever Danish male player to be World Handball Player of the Year, whilst Löke was the third Norwegian within the last five years after Gro Hammerseng and Linn-Kristin Riegelhuth.
