LAUSANNE (SUI), March 22, 2012: The 12th Junior Asian Championships in Artistic and Trampoline Gymnastics took place in Suphanburi, Thailand, from March 11 – 14, 2012.
Chinese gymnasts dominated the Men’s Artistic Individual All-around and Team competitions. Ji Lian (87.000) ranked first ahead of his compatriot Lin Chaopan (86.850) and Japan’s Yuya Kamoto (85.350). Lin moreover garnered three of six Golds in the Apparatus Finals (Pommel Horse, Vault and Horizontal Bar), while Korea’s Junho Lee and Hansol Kim tied in first place on Floor, and Lio Yang (CHN) and Kamoto took the title on Rings and Parallel Bars respectively. Twelve different nations entered the Team competition, with China scoring a Gold medal winning total of 261.000 points, followed by Japan (252.450) and Korea (251.050).
In Women’s Artistic, Japan prevailed with Manasa Ashikawa (54.100) and Azumi Ishikura (53.300) ranking 1-2 in the Individual All-around, leaving Narae Yun of Korea (52.600) in third place, and outscoring their nemeses in the Team competition with a 162.700 total. Korea placed second (157.000) and Uzbekistan finished third (149.750). Narae Yun of Korea prevailed in all Apparatus Finals but the Balance Beam, which is where Ishikura shone most.
China’s Zhang Zhenqian (40.800) and Lu Chen (39.000) won the Men’s and Women’s Individual Trampoline Finals respectively. In Women’s, Wen Jingjing (38.400) added another Silver to China’s medal tally while Yuri Murayama of Japan (36.800) took the Bronze. In Men’s, Kazakhstan’s Pirmammad Aliev (39.300) and Alexandr Shinkarev (37.900) went 2 -3 to take the Silver and Bronze.
