By: Rashid Ali Siddiqui, Karachi – Pakistan: After the successful holding All-Pakistan Championship in Islamabad by a faction of Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) their rival group is staging All-Sindh Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Boxing Tournament in Karachi.
The tournament being organized by the PBF (Doda Khan Bhutto group) affiliated with Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) led by Lt-Gen (retd) Arif Hassan started at the KPT Sports Complex. The organizers claimed that the event is being organized for the preparation of forthcoming Asian Games to be held later this year.
It may be mentioned that rival PBF (Akram Khan Group) had organized All-Pakistan event in Islamabad participated by pugilists from all over the country. Akram group has the blessing of Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) and parallel POA headed by Gen (retd) Akram Sahi.
The tussle between two parallel PBF has divided the boxing talent of the country which caused great damage to the game and boxers.
Pakistani pugilists could not qualify for the last two successive Olympic Games and even failed to win medals in international competitions due to apathy of the boxing officials. —- By: Rashid Ali Siddiqui
