Lahore – Pakistan, Feb 02, 2013: The entire Pakistan national sports fraternity was today shocked by the sad demise of Abdul Khaliq Khan, former Secretary General of Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) who died after an attack of stroke on Friday. He was 80. From officials to sports fans, from journalists to sport lovers, all are grieved at this devastating news.
According to the press release issued here by Pakistan Football Federation (PFF), President PFF, Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat in his condolence message said that he was deeply shocked on the sad demise of Abdul Khaliq Khan. He will remain in our thoughts and prayers. Abdul Khali Khan was such a kind person, who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. I will remember his contribution for the development of national sport in Pakistan. The loss to the sport is irreparable, and it will be very difficult to fill the vacuum created by the passing away of such a great sport organizer of Pakistan at this moment.
Secretary General PFF, Lt. Col. ®Ahmed Yar Khan Lodhi T1 (M) said “I am deeply shocked on the sad demise of Abdul Khaliq Khan. He was one of the greatest sportsmen ever produced by Pakistan. I wish to express my deep sorrow, and sincerely sympathize with his family in this bereaved moment.”
He served the national sports in different roles for over four decades and was known as a mentor to many in the organization and management of sports. He served the POA as Secretary General for two terms before ending his long association with the Pakistan Volley Ball Federation (PVF) as its General Secretary. He was actively involved in sports till his death.
