Orientation Meeting: 23rd Acrobatic Gymnastics World Championships

LAKE BUENA VISTA (USA), April 15, 2012: Representatives of the twenty-two participating nations at the 23rd Acrobatic Gymnastics World Championships were called in by the organisers for an orientation meeting on Sunday.

On behalf of FIG President Prof Bruno Grandi (ITA), who is expected to arrive in Lake Buena Vista (USA) on Monday, the federation’s Vice-President Dr. Michel Léglise (FRA) welcomed all delegation members and expressed his gratitude to the Local Organising Committee for hosting the event and the excellent preparations done in order to stage a successful event.

Representing the Organising Committee, Secretary General Ron Galimore extended a warm welcome to Lake Buena Vista to all participants, before Competition Director Carisa Laughon talked the audience through technical details of the event that will start on Monday with the Opening Ceremony at 9:30 am.

FIG Technical Committee President for Acrobatic Gymnastics, Tonya Case (USA), fell in line with Dr. Léglise’s words, welcoming the delegations on behalf of the TC and expressing her appreciation to the Organising Committee.

Finally, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jay Binder (USA), who is also a member of the FIG Medical Commission, informed about the permanent presence of doctors and physiotherapists at the competition venue to provide professional medical service throughout the event. Dr. Léglise reminded the delegation members that doping controls may take place at any point in time during the event.

In his closing remarks, Dr. Léglise pointed out that the Test Event for Acrobatic Gymnastics in preparation of the 9th World Games in Cali (COL) is scheduled for September 26 – 27, 2012, then wished good luck to all participants of these World Championships.
