Newly Elected ITTF EC Concludes Meeting

Beau Rivage Palace in Lausanne, Sept 29, 2013: The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Executive Committee has concluded their first meeting since being elected in May 2013.

The 9 Executive Committee members met at the IOC Headquarters and Beau Rivage Palace in Lausanne, Switzerland, on 27-28 September 2013 to discuss a wide range of topics.

ITTF President Adham SHARARA (CAN), who was elected during the 2013 ITTF AGM for his 6th term stated: “I am very satisfied with the outcome of the meeting and the positive discussions that took place. We have a solid team of vice presidents and staff that will work hard in the implementation of our future plans.”

The first point of the meeting was the announcement that Thomas WEIKERT (GER) was appointed the ITTF’s Deputy President, the 2nd highest position at the ITTF. WEIKERT, who is also the German Table Tennis Association President stated: “This is a fantastic chance to work and develop the ITTF across the globe.”

Petra SORLING (SWE) was then tasked with the responsibility of the Finance Director, based on her business background.

The Executive Committee had a lengthy discussion on the future of the World Table Tennis Championships, looking to reduce the size and costs make the event more manageable for the organizing committee. Further discussions will take place, and a proposal will be made to the Executive Committee in 2014.

President SHARARA announced the formal plans for the relocation of the ITTF Museum, which opened in 2004, from Lausanne to Shanghai, China, in 2014 in partnership with the Chinese Table Tennis Association and the Shanghai Municipal Government. The new home of the ITTF Museum will be 8,000 sqm, which is 10 times bigger than its current location.

ITTF Chief Executive Officer Judit FARAGO (HUN) announced that the ITTF will host a record 84 international events in 2014, which is an increase of 14 events from 2013, showing the growth and the increased demand of table tennis across the globe.

The next ITTF Executive Committee meeting will take place during the 2013 World Tour Grand Finals in Dubai on 9-12 January 2014. —- ITTF
