Jani re-elected Athletes’ Commission President

Lausanne, Mar 7, 2014: The incumbent President of the Athletes’ Commission of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG), Jani Tanskanen from Finland, was re-elected unanimously for another term. It was thus decided by the delegated gymnasts from the six competition disciplines, who met at FIG Headquarters, on March 1, 2014.

38 year old, Jani Tanskanen, 1997 World Champion on Horizontal Bar, began his second term at the head of this Commission, a position which also allows him to sit, with the right to vote, at the FIG Council and Executive Committee.

For the duration of this term and as athlete representative of men’s Artistic Gymnastics, the President will be accompanied by delegates Beth Tweddle from Great Britain, Women’s Artistic Gymnastics, Liubou Charkashina (BLR) from Rhythmic Gymnastics, Nuno Merino (POR), Trampoline, Aldrin Rodriguez (MEX), Aerobic Gymnastics and Alya Ahmadova (AZE), Acrobatic Gymnastics.

The Athletes’ Commission was created in 1999 at the initiative of FIG President Prof Bruno Grandi (ITA) and it plays an essential role in the proper functioning of the relationship between gymnasts and FIG authorities.

In his message to the athlete delegates, FIG President invited them to preserve the justice in the sport and to monitor with the greatest care, the training of young gymnasts in the world. —- FIG
