Irina Deleanu affair Suspension Imposed

Lausanne, June 25, 2012: On June 20, 2012, the FIG Disciplinary Commission announced its verdict on the complaint, dated March 18, 2012, by the Cyprus Gymnastics Federation against Mrs Irina Deleanu (ROU) following her remarks in an interview televised by the Romanian channel Antenna1 on January 24, 2012.

In violation of Article 3 of the FIG Code of Discipline, the Commission condemns Irina Deleanu to the suspension of her membership of the Technical Committee of the European Gymnastics Union from the date of the said decision until December 31, 2016. Furthermore, parts of the costs of the proceedings, namely CHF 5,000, are charged to Mrs Deleanu.

The decision may be appealed to the FIG Court of Appeals within 21 days of notification of the decision.

Cannabis GYMNAST SUSPENDED

Lausanne (SUI) / FIG Office, 25 June, 2012: Having tested positive for cannabis during the International Age Group Competitions at Lake Buena Vista (USA) on April 18, 2012, the Canadian gymnast Cory Marsh (18) is the subject of a decision by the FIG Disciplinary Commission.

The Commission decided, on June 21, 2012 to cancel all results obtained by the gymnast and his team in the above mentioned competition. It has also decided to suspend the athlete from all sports for a period of six months, until November 22, 2012. Furthermore, parts of the costs of procedures, namely USD 1,000, are also to be borne by the gymnast.

The Commission’s decision may be appealed to the FIG Appeals Tribunal within 21 days of notification of the decision. —- FIG
