International Boxing Association marks 100 days to go before Doha 2015 World Boxing Championships

Lausanne, June 26, 2015: June 27 marks #100 Days To Go before Doha 2015 World Boxing Championships where world’s top boxers will compete for the sport’s ultimate glory – the title of the World Boxing Champion. The competition will also provide Olympic qualification quotas to Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The Championship will take place from 5 until 18 October in Doha, Qatar and will involve 260 boxers from all over the world.

AIBA President Dr Ching-KuoWu said: “It is very symbolic that we celebrate the #100DaysToGo milestone during the boxing finals in the European Games where top three men boxers in 10 weight categories qualify to Doha 2015 World Boxing Championships through Baku 2015. We are eagerly looking at Doha as a great opportunity and exposure for our sport and as a stepping stone towards Rio 2016 for men boxers.”

The previous edition of AIBA World Boxing Championships took place in Almaty, Kazakhstan in 2013. It is the signature event on the world boxing calendar going back 39 years to its beginning in 1974 when the AIBA Men’s World Championships made its debut in one of the heartlands of boxing – Havana, Cuba. Boxers aged 19 to 40 are united every two years to compete against the best in their division from around the world.

The athletes compete in the official 10 weight categories in accordance with the AIBA Technical Rules and AOB Competition Rules with hopes of claiming the ultimate glory, becoming a world champion.
