LAUSANNE (SUI), FIG Office, June 7, 2012: Athlete Delegate, Aerobic athletes have elected a new representative to the FIG Athletes Commission; the vote was unanimous for Aldrin Enrique Rodriguez Garcia of Mexico, who secured the approval of the 60 gymnasts from 32 federations registered for the World Championships in Sofia. He succeeds Ana Macanita of Portugal, who after two consecutive terms is bound by FIG Statute to step down.
In his speech, a twenty-eight year old Aldrin promised his fellow athletes to harness energy and competence to strengthen the existing collaboration between the FIG authorities, those of each discipline and the athletes. He is one of the more popular figures in Mexican Aerobic Gymnastics. Coached by Marta Rodriguez Leyva, Aldrin has participated in world championship events since those in Nanjing (CHN) in 2006. He notched his best score at the recent 2012 Worlds in Sofia, where he placed 14th in the Trios Final.
