AIBA expected to move to top half in ASOIF Governance Assessment of Summer IFs

Lausanne, Nov 23, 2018: In recent months, the International Boxing Association (AIBA) has shown significant progress with regards to its governance (ASOIF Governance Assessment).

Based on the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF)’s Governance Assessment (ASOIF Governance Assessment), which provides an in-depth analysis of the governance of all Summer International Federations (IFs), AIBA’s progression shows clear signs of improvement over the timeline from January 2018, June 2018, to the present November 2018.

Over the last 10 months, AIBA has put a strong emphasis on key areas of governance, including transparency, integrity, democracy and check and balances.

Based on the ASOIF assessment, major improvements were made in all four areas.

The results indicate that AIBA almost doubled its total score as it moved from 67 points back in January, to over 120 points in November as shown by the chart below.

Gafur Rahimov, AIBA President, said: “A new era can only start with good governance.

I am happy to see that our mission for improved good governance at AIBA has been accomplished.

The work done this last year has revitalized AIBA and boxing, and we have a lot to be proud of. We will continue to successfully implement reforms and keep moving in the right direction.”

After being in the lower end of ASOIF’s Governance Assessment (ASOIF Governance Assessment) earlier this year, AIBA is now exactly in the middle of all Summer IFs.

Further to the changes approved at AIBA’s congress in early November, the organisation is now expecting to move into the top half of all Summer IFs. —- AIBA
