Las Vegas-USA, Feb 07, 2012: Andre AGASSI, widely considered to be one of the greatest tennis players of all time, will be appearing on behalf of Longines to present awards at the finals of the World Archery Indoor Championships.
The finals, which will take place on Thursday at the South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, will bring together many of the world’s best archers in contests for gold, silver and bronze medals, as well as watches from famed watchmaker Longines.
“We are very pleased to welcome Andre AGASSI to our Finals and awards presentation,” commented Tom DIELEN, Secretary General of World Archery. “Tennis and archery have much in common, as Olympic sports of accuracy and precision. Longines, Andre AGASSI and the World Archery Indoor Championships are a fitting combination.”
AGASSI is an Olympic gold medalist and eight time Grand Slam singles champion, but continued his efforts in the public sector after his 2006 retirement by founding the Andre AGASSI Foundation for Education, which has raised over 177 million for under served youth in the greater Las Vegas area.
The Andre AGASSI College Preparatory Academy of Las Vegas is a tuition free public charter school for children in the historical West Las Vegas community; opened in 2001, AGASSI Prep will this week host a new sport: archery.
Number one world ranked archer and Olympian Brady ELLISON (USA) will join seven archery instructors, including two Olympic medalists in archery, at AGASSI Prep for an archery demonstration and lesson on Friday.
The World Archery Indoor Championships, facilitated by World Archery and co-hosted by USA Archery and the National Field Archery Association, run through Thursday, with the senior finals beginning at 5:30 p.m. The event, held in the South Point Arena, is free and open to the public.
