Americas Paralympic Committee launches search for athlete representative

Germany, Feb 24, 2015: With less than six months to go until August’s Toronto 2015 Parapan American Games in Canada, the Americas Paralympic Committee (APC) has launched a search for candidates to act as athlete representative on its Executive Committee.

National Paralympic Committees in the Americas have until 8 May 2015 to nominate one candidate who has strong qualities of leadership, accomplishment, knowledge and respect, both on and off the field of play. The APC will also particularly welcome candidates with experience in and commitment to the advocacy of athlete related issues.

Elections for the APC athlete representative will take place during the Toronto 2015 Parapan American Games. The elected athlete will serve a four year term with the Executive Committee through to 2019 providing a viewpoint on a whole range of issues covering the Paralympic Movement in the Americas.

A shortlist of candidates for elections will be announced at least two months prior to the Toronto 2015 Parapan American Games Opening Ceremony on 7 August.

To be eligible for election, an individual must be an active athlete, having competed in the Guadalajara 2011 Parapan American Games or intending to compete at August’s Parapan American Games.
