Quotes of the Individual Finals World Cup stage 2 in Antalya

Antalya – May 05, 2012: Albina LOGINOVA, The individual finals of the four international categories took place today at the World Cup stage 2 in Antalya. Here are the reactions from the finalists live from the beach.

Recurve Men

IM Dong-Hyun (KOR) – 1st place

I’m very happy! I lost two sets but it didn’t worry me. Every match has its ups and downs. I could have lost the set and there would have been a shoot-off. I was confident that I would shoot a 10 in my last arrow and I did. Now I need to work hard until the Olympic Games.

Markiyan IVASHKO (UKR) – 2nd place

I am always disappointed when I lose a match. After I came back in the fourth set, I was almost sure I would win the final. But my last arrow came too fast and was not good. When the speaker announced that I had won the silver, I rather felt like I had lost the gold. There is only one winner. It’s still the best individual result that I have achieved in the World Cup, I had placed 3rd in Porec one time so I am improving with this 2nd place.

Recurve Women

Deepika KUMARI (IND) – 1st place

I am always aware of what’s going on because it’s impossible not to see the scores. I shoot my best, that’s all. It’s my first victory in the World Cup.

LEE Sung Jin (KOR) – 2nd place

I lost the match in the last set. I felt strong wind in the last set, looked at the flag and aimed at 8 on my last arrow, and then the score was exactly that. My scores were not good even though I shot consistently.

LIN Chia-En (TPE) – 3rd place

I was quite nervous at the start of the final but then I enjoyed myself. I was focusing mainly on my technique. I didn’t pay attention to the scores, I just tried to achieve the best movement possible, and obtained my first World Cup podium.

Compound Men

Reo WILDE (USA) – 1st place

It’s a good start, it was my goal to come here to do that and qualify for the World Cup Final in Tokyo. I hope it keeps going. I trained pretty much the same as last year. I didn’t change anything, just work and shoot good. I’ve already trained this morning and will now go to the hotel and relax before tomorrow’s team and mixed team finals. I’ll watch a movie with my teammates.

Braden GELLENTHIEN (USA) – 2nd place

In the first end I shot a really good group on the right side of the target. Then I moved my sight because of the wind, in order to be more in the middle, but it ended up being too far on the left side and I had a few 9s – still, if not for that change I would have scored a 7. It’s the second end that killed me.

Dominique GENET (FRA) – 3rd place

I was pretty confident during training and on the shooting field. I started with a 10 which put me at ease but I shot several bad arrows in the last ends and suddenly I was under pressure again. I couldn’t afford to lose more points, the match was tight so I had no choice but shoot 10s! It’s always a pleasure to shoot here in Antalya, the shooting area on the beach is really amazing.

Compound Women

Albina LOGINOVA (RUS) – 1st place

I didn’t start very well, with 27. Kristina’s miss was like a present she gave me! It’s not the set system anymore so she had no chance to come back. Even with that, you must always stay focused until the very last shot. Kristina is very good and I think she will be one of my toughest competitors from now on.

Kristina BERGER (GER) – 2nd place

It’s my first World Cup event and I was a little bit nervous. I had already shot a miss in qualifications but still managed to end up with 690 points. So I could have shot 700 if not for that! Second place is not a bad result. I didn’t have any expectations going into this competition. I used to shoot pistol a long time ago and was several times German National Champion. I only tried archery for the first time in 2010 when I was introduced to the sport during a trip to Australia.

Marcella TONIOLI (ITA) – 3rd place

I was too nervous, it wasn’t easy to shoot the arrows on time today. I was tense but I stayed focused, I shot some bad arrows but overall it was under control. Every final is difficult, to shoot for a medal is hard work.

Jamie VAN NATTA (USA) – 4th place

I’m not mad or upset of anything, I shoot my arrows and they go where they go. I will now focus on tomorrow’s match. I’m always excited to shoot the team final. It’s a different atmosphere, we are all very supportive of each other, it’s a real team effort and it’s always special to share that.
