79th FIG Congress Cancun (MEX), October 25 – 27, 2012

LAUSANNE (SUI), April 27, 2012: 79th FIG Congress Cancun, In exactly six months, on October 25, 2012, delegates of the 130 FIG national affiliated federations will participate in the 79th statutory General Assembly in Cancun, on Mexico’s Caribbean Coast.

For the oldest international sporting federation and its President, Prof. Bruno Grandi (ITA), the Assembly will mark a complete overhaul of FIG authorities. Ninety-five individuals will be elected for the various committees and administrative organs for the 2013 – 2016 Olympic Cycle.

FIG Deputy Secretary General Nicolas Buompane and Zina Terrier, the assistant of the Secretary General, recently traveled to meet with the Mexican Gymnastics Federation, organiser of the event, to iron out details for the Congress; a first on Mexican soil. National Federation President Gustavo Salazar, Vice-President Naomi Valenzo and FIG Council Member for Pan American Gym Union / Mexico Alejandro Peniche have confirmed that the best working conditions possible will be provided in time to welcome some four hundred delegates to Cancun this October.

A full week of work awaits FIG authorities in Cancun as the Presidential Commission, its Executive Committee and the Foundation Council gather prior to the General Assembly. Parallel to a statutory administrative agenda, a cultural programme will be offered to allow visitors a chance to discover the Yucatan Peninsula and the remnants of Mayan civilization.
