Russia Grabs 2 Gold Medals on 4th Day of Competition at World Junior Taekwondo Championships

Sharm El SheikhEgypt, April 07, 2012: Russia Grabs 2 Gold, Women’s -55kg Medal Awarding Ceremony: Russia clinched two gold medals on the fourth day of competition at the 9th World Junior Taekwondo Championships at the Sharm El Sheikh Covered Hall in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt on April 7, 2012.

Korea won one gold medal and one silver medal, while Jordan took home one gold medal. Iran, Chinese Taipei and France garnered one silver medal each.

In the men’s -45kg category, Russia’s Boris Krasnov managed to brush aside a stiff challenge from Iran’s Seyed Abbas Sadeghi Tabari to win the final match 4-3 for the gold medal. The bronze went to Mexico’s Brandon Plaza Hernandez and the Philippines’ Aaron James Galita.

In the men’s -63kg division, Jordan’s Ahmad Abughaush needed a fourth, sudden-death round to clinch the gold medal against Korea’s Hyeon-ul Lee. China’s Shuai Zhao and Spain’s Eduardo Longobardi Radford shared the bronze medal in the same category.

In the women’s -42kg category, Korea’s Hye-min Jeong needed a fourth sudden-death round to grab the gold medal against Chinese Taipei’s Wan-Ting Lin. Iran’s Fatemeh Shabannia Mansour and Great Britain’s Asia Bailey took home a bronze medal each.

In the women’s -55kg division, Russia’s Julia Volkova came from behind to beat France’s Estelle Vander Zwalm 6-3 in the final match for the gold medal. The bronze went to Kazakhstan’s Zarina Serdaliyeva and Germany’s Froemming Anna Lena.
