Qingdao, China: The third day of the JUDO GRAND PRIX QINGDAO 2011 offered a number of very exiting fights with a wealth many ippons, from both spectacular throwing and ground techniques. The Champions of the last day are: NISHIYAMA Masashi (Japan), Kayla HARRISON (USA), HWANG Hee-Tae (Korea), TONG Wen (China) and Ihar MAKARAU (Belarus).
Men’s -90kg. Category: A Surprising Winner:
The Gold medalist of the Qingdao Grand Prix 2011 in the Men’s -90 kg. Category is NISHIYAMA Masashi (Japan). The final was somewhat of a surprise as neither fighter could generate sufficient quality techniques to gain a decisive score. Finally, the winner was the young Japanese judoka, NISHIYAMA Masashi (wazari – throwing technique Osoto Gari).
The first semifinal, the favorite – seeded number one in this competition was the Russian judoka Kirill DENISDOV, number 4 in IJF on the World Ranking List (WRL). He was defeated (wazari, after a throwing technique “Harai Maki Komi”) by NISHIYAMA Masashi (Japan). In the other semifinal, Hesham MESBAH (Egypt) won (yuko, after a throwing technique “Kuchi Kida Oshi”) against ERDENBILEG Enkhbat (Mongolia).
Semifinals: Kirill DENISDOV (Russia) lost to NISHIYAMA Masashi (Japan) & Hesham MESBAH (Egypt) won against ERDENEBILEG Enkhbat (Mongolia). The bronze medals were won by Kirill DENISDOV (Russia) and ERDENBILEG Enkhbat (Mongolia).
Final: NISHIYAMA Masashi (Japan) won against Hesham MESBAH (Egypt).

Women’s -78 kg. Category: Gold for USA:
The winner of Women -78 kg. Category is Kayla HARRISON (USA). The final saw the young American overcome the much more experienced Olympic Champion, YANG Xiuli. The public favorite was defeated by HARRISON, who threw her for ippon (Harai Maki Komi) earning a well-deserved Gold medal at this JUDO GRAND PRIX QINGDAO 2011.
In the first semifinal, after a very defensive and tactical fight, the favorite – seeded number one in this competition, the former World Champion, American judoka Kayla HARRISON, number 3 on the IJF on the WRL, won (yuko, after two shidos) , against Lucie LOUETTE (France), number 9 on the IJF WRL. The second semifinal was very tense. An all-Chinese affair, between the young judoka, ZHANG Jie and her team mate, the Beijing Olympic Champion, YANG Xiuli, number 6 on the IJF WRL. Finally, YANG Xiuli won by ippon, after throwing and then holding techniques (Ouchi Gari and Yokoshi Hou Gatame).
Semifinals: Kayla HARRISON (USA) won against Lucie LOUETTE (France) & YANG Xiuli (China) won against ZHANG Jie (China).
The bronze medals were won by Lucie LOUETTE (France) and ZHANG Jie (China).

Men’s -100 kg. Category: The Favorite Is the Winner:
The Gold medalist of the Qingdao Grand Prix 2011 is HWANG Hee-Tae (Korea). In a close fought final where the two athletes tested each other to the maximum. In the end, however, it was the Korean judoka, who won (wazari), with a neatly-timed throwing technique (Tomoe Nage) against the Georgian judoka Levan ZHORZHOLIANI (Georgia).
In the first semifinal, the favorite HWANG Hee-Tae (Korea) – seeded number one in this competition, having won Silver last week at the Tokyo Grand Slam and the former World Champion, number 6 on the IJF on the WRL, defeated (yuko, after a throwing technique – Tomoe Nage) Ariel ZEEVI (Israel). In the other semifinal, Artem BLOSHENKO (Ukraine) lost (three shidos) to Levan ZHORZHOLIANI (Georgia).
Semifinals: HWANG Hee-Tae (Korea) won against Ariel ZEEVI (Israel) & Artem BLOSHENKO (Ukraine) lost to Levan ZHORZHOLIANI (Georgia).
The bronze medals were won by Artem BLOSHENKO (Ukraine) and Ariel ZEEVI (Israel).

Women’s +78 kg. Category: China over All Again!
The winner of the Women’s +78 kg Category is TONG Wen (China). In the final, after a very exiting fight, the public favorite, TONG Wen (China) won, by ippon, after a beautiful throwing technique (Soto Maki Komi) against the top seeded judoka at this competition QIN Qian (China).
The semifinals of the Women’s +78 kg Category was a Chinese competition with a British guest, Karina BRYANT. In the first semifinal, we witnessed a spectacular contest between two vice World Champions. The favorite – seated number one in this competition, number 3 on the IJF WRL, QIN Qian (China) won, by ippon (immobilization technique – Yokoshi Hou Gatame) against Karina BRYANT (Great Britain).
In the second semifinal, the Olympic and World Champion, TONG Wen (China), number 7 on the IJF WRL, won, by ippon, after a beautiful throwing technique (Seoi Nage) against her team mate, the young an unheralded judoka KANG Jie.
Semifinals: QIN Qian (China) won against Karina BRYANT (Great Britain) & Levan ZHORZHOLIANI (Georgia)won against KANG Jie (China).
The bronze medals were won by Karina BRYANT (Great Britain) and KANG Jie (China).
Final: TONG Wen (China) won by ippon against QIN Qian (China).

Men’s +100kg. Category: MAKARAU Still Going Strong:
The Gold medalist of the Qingdao Grand Prix 2011 in the Men’s +100 kg. Category is Ihar MAKARAU (Belarus). The final was somewhat a surprise. The number 20 on the IJF WRL, Ihtar MAKARAU, won after a spectacular complex throwing technique (Uchi Mata Sukaeshi), in the second minute of the contest, against KIM Sung-Min (Korea), number 4 on the IJF WRL.
In the first semifinal, Rafael SILVA (Brazil), the number 8 on the IJF WRL, lost the fight, after four shidos (Hansokumake) to the Athens Olympic Champion(, Ihar MAKARAU (Belarus). In the other semifinal, KIM Sung-Min (Korea), won by ippon (immobilization – Yoko Shio Gatame) against his the young team mate CHO Guham, after a beautiful throwing technique (Seoi Nage).
Semifinals: Rafael SILVA (Brazil) lost to Ihar MAKARAU (Belarus) & KIM Sung-Min (Korea) won by ippon against CHO Guham (Korea).
The bronze medals were won by Rafael SILVA (Brazil) and CHO Guham (Korea).
Final: Ihar MAKARAU (Belarus) won by ippon against KIM Sung-Min (Korea).

“Best Judoka” Trophy – Men: Ihar MAKARAU (Belarus).
