Registration opens for the 2017 IMMAF Africa Open Championships

London, June 29, 2017: Athlete registration opens today for the 2017 IMMAF Africa Open Championships.

Hosted by the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) and Mixed Martial Arts South Africa (MMASA), the Africa Open returns to Johannesburg from 28 August to 2 September.

Amateur MMA competitors from around the world are welcomed to participate for the opportunity to win IMMAF’s prestigious Gold, Silver or Bronze medals and to achieve status in the IMMAF World Amateur MMA Rankings.

The nation vs nation tournament provides athletes with the chance to compete multiple times in one week and test their skills against international talent. IMMAF Championships have become a talent scouting ground for leading professional promoters and matchmakers globally.

IMMAF President, Kerrith Brown said: “When they turn pro, IMMAF champions are quickly getting snapped up by leading professional promotions worldwide including renowned UFC feeder shows.

IMMAF has quickly gained the reputation of a tried and tested pathway for competitors looking to accelerate their MMA career and gain unrivalled competition experience.”

“Last year’s inaugural IMMAF Africa Open Championships was the first IMMAF event on the continent: The foundational, boutique competition offered once-in-a-lifetime hospitality with MMASA creating a welcoming, home-from-home atmosphere for the international teams.

Besides the experience of the competition itself, participants were given the opportunity to go on Safari and to go Skydiving among other tourist pursuits, which all added to the package and provided a memorable, and personalized experience.

With an increased number of nations having registered intent to compete, this year’s competition is set to be bigger in size, but to maintain the wonderful, convivial atmosphere established in 2016.”
