AFC has appointed Khurram Shahzad as FIFA Referee

Lahore, Pakistan, June 13, 2012: Pakistan is highly honoured as Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has appointed Khurram Shahzad as FIFA Referee to officiate the AFC U22 Championship 2013 Qualifiers-Group D from 16th June to 24th June 2012 being held at Kathmandu, Nepal.

According to the press release issued here by Pakistan Football Federation (PFF), AFC Referees Committee has selected and approved Mr. Khurram Shahzad as Elite Referee of the final list of AFC Elite Referees for 2012.

“Referees in receipt of a FIFA badge are entitled to officiate at FIFA and AFC fixtures, both at club and international level. I hope that Mr. Shahzad will keep his fitness level and refereeing for the rest of the year.” said President PFF, Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat. While talking about the development of refereeing Mr. Makhdoom said that the quality of the game also plays a major role in the development of refereeing. No referee in the world can claim to be the best in the world. One can only become a good referee when one makes the least number of mistakes.

“Football is a global sport and its rules must be interpreted and applied with absolute consistency wherever the game is played. FIFA therefore has a policy of ongoing training for its referees to ensure that refereeing standards continue to improve and the Laws of the Game are applied the same way everywhere,” added by Faisal.
