Hyundai Young Player Award revealed in Vancouver

Vancouver, March 25, 2015: With excitement growing ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™, the Hyundai Young Player Award was revealed today at the Vancouver International Auto Show.

First awarded at the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany™ and chosen by the FIFA Technical Study Group, the “Hyundai Young Player Award” will recognize the exceptional performances of players at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015 who are born on or after 1 January 1995. In both men’s and women’s football, the award has served as an important motivational link between the senior World Cups and FIFA’s age-group tournaments.

Steve Milette (Director of Sales, Hyundai Auto Canada Corp) revealed the award and emphasized Hyundai’s pride in being associated with the young talents of the flagship tournament in international women’s football. Many outstanding candidates are set to compete for the award during the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015 with a shortlist of three players being put forward after the semi-finals and then the winner will be announced after the final match on 5 July.

Young elite footballers will hope to follow in the footsteps of Caitlin Foord (Australia) who won the inaugural Hyundai Young Player Award at a FIFA Women’s World Cup, after her outstanding performances four years ago in Germany.

Besides the age criteria, the FIFA Technical Study Group will also consider the following qualities in determining the Hyundai Young Player Award winner:
• Exceptional level of skill
• Refreshing and youthful style of play
• Creativity and inspiration
• Tactical maturity and effectiveness
• Fan recognition via impressive performances
• Role model for young footballers
• Positive attitude and advocate for fair-play

Hyundai Motor Company has been a FIFA Partner since 1999 and has been involved in the promotion of women’s football globally. In 2010, the company extended its strategic sponsorship agreement with FIFA to cover the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups™. —- FIFA
